Patras Carnival
More than 500 cultural events take place in the city every year, including the leading carnival in Europe.
The carnival of Patras is the modern version of the ancient Dionysian Mysteries, one of the most important and most crowded, in terms of active participants, carnival, a group “outburst” of joy, the winter cultural “vehicle” of Patras towards fun. “It ’embraces’ hundreds of thousands of Greeks and foreigners, young people and people of all ages, who pour into the streets of Patras every February, winding their biological clocks in a month-long open-air festival of immeasurable intensity, with parades of floats and hundreds of Hidden Treasure crews, which attracts many tourists from all over the world. The important thing is that the Patras Carnival is not based on the actions and initiatives of artists or associations, but on the actions and initiatives of almost the entire local population.
The carnival has developed cooperative relations with the carnivals of Biareggio, Nice, Düsseldorf, Cologne, Cologne, Tenerife, Visbaden, Osaka, Nottingham, London, Nottingham, and Vienna.
