Organisation
The Port Authority of Patras S.A., as the successor legal entity to the Port Fund of Patras, was established following the enactment of Law 2932/2001. It is a single-member public company under the jurisdiction of the Hellenic Republic Asset Development Fund (TAIPED) (Government Gazette 2996/B/12-11-2012).
The structure, management, and overall operation of the Port Authority are governed by the Statute of Law 2932/2001, as amended (latest amendment: registration number G.E.MI. 2675511/08-11-2021), and additionally by Law 2190/1920 as amended and in force.
Strategy
The Port of Patras, which dominates the Western Port System of the country, has the following specific characteristics:
- It serves as the main Western Gateway of the country. It caters to passenger and commercial needs for Southern and Central Greece. Its contribution to the economic, social, and cultural development of the region and the country has been and continues to be significant.
- It is classified as a Port of International Interest: (Category K1, Ministerial Decision 8315.2/02/07 (Official Gazette B’202)).
- It is integrated into the Trans-European Transport Network (TEN-T), specifically in the core network as defined for the period 2014-2050 in Decision 661/2010/EU (Guidelines for the development of the TEN-T) and in COM (2011) 650/19-10-2011, the Draft Regulation concerning the Guidelines for the development of the TEN-T.
a) maintaining and strengthening its leading position among the ports of Western Greece as the main and primary Western Gateway of the country,
b) its dynamic entry into the tourism market by promoting itself as a tourist port (Mega Yachts, cruises) and

In this context, our actions are focused on:
a) Strengthening an outward-looking policy of collaboration among Adriatic Sea ports on port industry matters
b) Developing new business initiatives aimed at enhancing the port’s competitiveness and contributing to integrated multimodal maritime transport, and
c) Developing initiatives and actively participating in the maritime industry within the new Adriatic-Ionian Macro-Region of the EU.
The actions of O.L.P.A. S.A. focus on:
- Collaboration with other ports in Western Greece as part of developing an effective and competitive port system for Western Greece (Igoumenitsa – Corfu – Katakolo).
- Integration of small regional ports ("orphan" ports) into the Port Authority of Patras (O.L.P.A. S.A.).
- Collaboration with business entities (such as the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Achaea, the Western Greece Industries Association, etc.) to develop joint actions supporting local entrepreneurship and the internationalisation of regional economic actors.
Implementing an outward-looking policy of collaboration with Adriatic ports initially, and subsequently with other ports in the Southeast European maritime corridor on port industry matters, through joint programs and memoranda of understanding.
