Seaplane Base
By decision published in the Government Gazette (Vol. B 1543/04.05.2017), the “Patras Port Authority S.A.” (O.L.PA. S.A.) has been granted a license to operate a Seaplane Base on a water surface (“Seaplane Base”), in the sea area of the Port of Patras for use by seaplanes.
The PPA makes available for the operation of the Seaplane Base a building for passenger service located at the Norman Street projection, near the pier of Astigos (approximately 61.00 m²). In the building there are ticketing and check-in areas, check-in, waiting areas with the necessary hotel equipment (seats, etc.), passenger and baggage control areas, through magnetic gates and X-Ray (which is already installed in this area) and an administration and security office equipped (desk, computer, telephone, etc.). It will also provide a floating pier constructed for the safe mooring of seaplanes at Berth No 11 on Astigos Street and for the mooring of the waterway service vessel.
The construction, installation and licensing of the necessary infrastructure will make the city and the port of Patras the central hub of a first basic network of Seaplane waterways in Western Greece, thus contributing to the tourism and general economic development dynamics of the wider region.
