Patras
Patras is the third largest city in the country and is the most important commercial, industrial, maritime, transport and tourist centre of the whole region.
As it is located in the center of the cultural triangle – Delphi – Olympia – Epidaurus, it is an ideal starting point for excursions to the most important archaeological monuments, satisfying even the most demanding visitor.
It has a unique charm, an interesting urban layout and many remarkable buildings (neoclassical, mid-war, industrial, etc.)
Thanks to its mild climate, its abundant entertainment options, its vast cultural tradition, its high performing university faculties, it attracts visitors all year round.
In 2006, it was declared the European Capital of Culture.
It was here that the Apostle Andrew (68 AD), the patron saint of the city, taught and martyred.
Although it was completely destroyed during the Revolution of 1821, it developed rapidly after the liberation and became an important commercial and industrial centre, being the main export point to Western Europe.
