The role of the port of Patras as a strategic infrastructure for the development of Western Greece and the interconnection of the country with the Mediterranean was highlighted by the Chairman of the Board and CEO of the Port of Patras S.A., Panagiotis G. Anastasopoulos, speaking in the context of the Patras IQ 2026 innovation exhibition, which took place at the Conference and Cultural Center of the University of Patras.
In his intervention, Mr. Anastasopoulos emphasized that the port of Patras is not simply a transport gateway, but is evolving into a modern multifunctional hub of logistics, energy and technological innovation, which can contribute decisively to the sustainable development of the region.
As he noted, the OLPA strategy is based on three main axes:
- Strengthening Patras' international maritime connections with Italy, the Mediterranean and new markets.
- Development of modern port and energy infrastructure, which will strengthen the role of the port as a regional logistics and energy hub.
- Integrating innovative technologies and collaborations with the academic community, leveraging the potential of research and know-how developed in Patras.
The President and CEO of the OLPA emphasized that connecting research with infrastructure and the real economy is a basic prerequisite for the development of the region, noting that the port can function as a platform for cooperation between universities, businesses and public bodies.
Concluding his statement, he pointed out that Patras has all the characteristics to develop into a model example of city-port-innovation cooperation, with the port functioning as a growth lever for the local economy and the wider region of Southeastern Europe.
