commercial, industrial, maritime, transport and tourist centre of the whole region.<\/p><p>As it is located in the center of the cultural triangle &#8211; Delphi &#8211; Olympia &#8211; Epidaurus, it is an ideal starting point for excursions to the most important archaeological monuments, satisfying even the most demanding visitor.<\/p><p>It has a unique charm, an interesting urban layout and many remarkable buildings (neoclassical, mid-war, industrial, etc.)<\/p><p>Thanks to its mild climate, its abundant entertainment options, its vast cultural tradition, its high performing university faculties, it attracts visitors all year round.<\/p><p>In 2006, it was declared the European Capital of Culture.<\/p><p>It was here that the Apostle Andrew (68 AD), the patron saint of the city, taught and martyred.<\/p><p>Although it was completely destroyed during the Revolution of 1821, it developed rapidly after the liberation and became an important commercial and industrial centre,
