The project is based on the cooperation activities that have separated for many years the activities of the Italian and Greek partner ports. Facing the various challenges created by technological and economic changes as well as changes in regulations, the Port Authorities are becoming an active and coherent part of the higher institutions, trying to be pioneers in the Euro-Mediterranean region in the implementation of the new Community directives. <\/p>\n

The project concept aims at legislative and structural harmonisation of the information exchange systems operating between ships and shore – port side, and between port and hinterland. The objective is to create a working prototype of a unique national maritime single NMSW\/PMIS system that will allow ships to interface with the national Greek and Italian coastguard. This system will be interoperable with the European vessel traffic monitoring system SafeNet, while ensuring interoperability with the existing PCS called GAIA. <\/p>\n

The functionality of the system in Greece should also be certified, implementing the EU Directive 2010\/65\/EC which seeks to ensure the alignment of procedures and thus avoid further burdening the duties of shipping companies and organisations.<\/p>\n

The created business environment will become the standard for use in all Greek and Italian ports, making it necessary to provide PCS to each partner port that does not yet have its own (Corfu and Patras), creating a network with all partner ports, while ensuring their independence.<\/p>\n

This activity is then reinforced by the creation of personalised services, for ship passengers, trucks and cruise passengers, which will be distributed in each port. For the construction of the network between the long-distance and Last Mile information systems, the intention is to create a network for monitoring local sustainability (BAT (Barletta-Andria-Trani) province and Epirus Region) which, through the connection with the port information systems, could inform trucks – especially those carrying dangerous goods – in real time about the traffic situation. <\/p>\n

The information network for users is completed with the weather forecast service for coastal areas near partner ports.<\/p>\n
