What are cookies?<\/strong><\/h5>\n

“Cookies” are small files with information that a website (specifically the web server) stores on a user’s computer\/tablet\/mobile phone, so that each time the user logs on to the website, the latter retrieves this information and offers the user relevant services.<\/p>\n

A typical example of such information is the user’s preferences on a website, as indicated by the choices that the user makes on that website (e.g. selection of specific “buttons”, searches, advertisements, etc.).<\/p>\n

Which law applies? <\/strong><\/h5>\n

Cookies are governed by the e-privacy Directive 2002\/58\/EC as amended by Directive 2009\/136\/EC (which has been incorporated into Greek law by Law 3471\/2006) as explicitly provided in the 2016\/679 Data Protection Regulation recital 173. According to the current law N3471\/2006 (see article 4 paragraph 5 of this law as amended by article 170 N 4070\/2012) “The installation of “cookies” is allowed only with the consent of the user and after proper information.” During the first visit of the user to the website https:\/\/www.patrasport.gr\/ a pop-up window appears where the visiting user can indicate his\/her consent to the installation of the cookies specifically mentioned, which are non-functional cookies aimed at improving the services presented on the Website.<\/p>\n

There are “cookies” that have been assessed by the Article 29 Working Party* as technically-functionally necessary for the realisation of the connection to the website or for the provision of the internet service. For these the law does not require prior consent. <\/p>\n
